Le Musée de la Bande Dessinée est une invitation à entrer dans un monde où les images racontent des histoires, où les bulles prennent la parole et où l’imaginaire belge s’exprime avec une créativité sans limite. Installé dans un somptueux bâtiment Art nouveau signé Victor Horta, ce musée emblématique de Bruxelles marie avec élégance architecture, patrimoine et neuvième art. Dès le seuil franchi, le décor donne le ton : lumineux, fluide, inspirant, presque magique.
Dans ce lieu chargé d’histoire, ancien grand magasin et dernier de ce type encore debout construit par Horta, la bande dessinée trouve un écrin à sa mesure. À quelques minutes du centre-ville, la visite se vit comme une exploration joyeuse et érudite, accessible aux passionnés comme aux simples curieux, aux adultes nostalgiques comme aux enfants émerveillés.
Un siècle de bande dessinée belge à découvrir
Le cœur du musée bat au rythme de l’exposition permanente « Un siècle de BD belge », véritable fil conducteur du parcours. On y traverse les grandes étapes de la bande dessinée, de ses origines à aujourd’hui, en découvrant comment ce médium est devenu un pilier de la culture belge.
Les planches originales attirent immédiatement le regard. On s’arrête, on s’approche, on observe le trait, l’encre, les corrections parfois visibles. Chaque dessin raconte autant l’histoire qu’il illustre que le geste de l’auteur. La bande dessinée se dévoile alors comme un art à part entière, exigeant, précis, profondément expressif.
Le musée met en lumière la richesse du patrimoine belge, reconnu bien au-delà de ses frontières, et donne les clés pour comprendre l’évolution des styles, des thèmes et des techniques.
Un musée vivant, rythmé par les expositions temporaires
Au-delà de son exposition permanente, le Musée de la Bande Dessinée se distingue par un vaste programme d’expositions temporaires, régulièrement renouvelées. Ces expositions offrent un regard différent sur le 9? Art : un auteur, un courant, un univers graphique, une thématique particulière.
Cette dynamique constante donne envie de revenir, de redécouvrir le lieu sous un autre angle, de se laisser surprendre à chaque visite. Le musée ne fige pas la bande dessinée dans le passé : il la montre vivante, contemporaine, en perpétuelle évolution.
Un lieu de découverte et d’admiration esthétique
La visite est aussi une expérience esthétique à part entière. Le bâtiment Art nouveau, avec ses lignes courbes, ses verrières et ses volumes élégants, dialogue subtilement avec les œuvres exposées. On lève souvent les yeux, autant pour admirer l’architecture que pour suivre le parcours narratif des expositions.
La bédéthèque, l’une des mieux fournies au monde, prolonge le plaisir. Elle offre un espace de consultation et de découverte, où l’on peut prendre le temps de feuilleter, comparer, approfondir. Un vrai trésor pour les amateurs comme pour les lecteurs occasionnels.

French comic magazine Métal Hurlant is 50 years old! Jean-Pierre Dionnet, Philippe Druillet, Moebius and Bernard Farkas founded the magazine in 1975. So many years later, this dream machine is steaming ahead at full speed.
From its early years, Métal Hurlant did not just redefine comics: the magazine pushed the boundaries between artistic disciplines and opened a whole new space for dialogue between drawing, science fiction, music, film and philosophy. Meanwhile, it is widely acknowledged to have changed the face of comics worldwide.
In its half-century of existence, the cogs of the machine jammed a few times, but in 2021 the magazine, in a new guise, began a new life. This third revolution, meanwhile, counts 12 issues.
To celebrate Métal Hurlant's 50th anniversary, the exhibition looks at the past and present, zooming in on the richness and influence of the revolutionary magazine, which reaches far beyond the world of comics.

In 2021, the Comic Art Museum launched Le Dessableur, a bilingual journal devoted to the history and study of comics. The title was inspired by “Rue des Sables,” the street where the museum is located.
Conceived as a complement to the museum’s exhibitions, the journal explores themes that would not easily fit within traditional scenography. Each issue takes a closer look at specific aspects of comics—speech balloons, cutaway views, collage, subjective viewpoints, photo comics, silent comics, and autobiographical comics—offering new ways to look at the comic book artform.
The journal places great importance on publishing original content by commissioning covers from contemporary artists, presenting previously unpublished comic strips and pages, and developing its own drawn reportages. Le Dessableur serves not only as a platform for art analysis but also a space for artistic creation and experimentation.
In just five years and nearly twenty issues, Le Dessableur has established itself as a prolific laboratory where research, history and artistic practice meet.

On Thursday 23 April, we have the incredible honour and pleasure of welcoming Dutch star author Aimée De Jongh. She has written and illustrated an impressive oeuvre that has won numerous awards. In 2025, she won the Willy Vandersteen Prize (the prize for the best Dutch-language album) for her comic adaptation of the classic novel Lord of the Flies. It promises to be a particularly fascinating evening in which she will give an insight into her rich career.
