An ideal visit for those who love art without fixed codes, who want to understand through play and share a companionable moment, with family or friends, during a getaway to Redu, for a playful journey through seven centuries of art.
The Mudia – Didactic Art Museum perfectly embodies its motto: Art differently . Located in Redu, one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia, this museum surprises visitors from the very first steps. Here, art is discovered with curiosity, smiles and participation, in a welcoming atmosphere that encourages visitors to look, touch, listen and engage with the artworks. A place designed both for art enthusiasts and for those who may hesitate to step into a museum.
In this human-scale Ardennes village, Mudia nevertheless offers a spectacular journey through 7 centuries of art, from the Renaissance to contemporary art, through more than 300 original works and 50 artistic movements. A richness that fascinates and delights without ever feeling intimidating.
The exhibition unfolds across 20 rooms, each punctuated with interactive features and surprises. Painting, drawing, sculpture, comics, photography and animated film: art appears in all its forms. Visitors encounter renowned names — Veronese, Brueghel, Jordaens, Spilliaert, Klimt, Kandinsky, Picasso, Warhol, Hergé — and discover their work in a clear, accessible and stimulating context.
The texts are simple without being simplistic, and the audioguide, included in the ticket price, is also suitable for children. Mudia achieves a rare feat: making art history understandable and engaging for all perspectives, whatever the visitor’s age or experience.
Here, visitors do more than simply observe. Mudia invites you to change your perspective: climb a small step to view a work differently, discover sculptures through discreet openings, smell the aroma of crêpes in front of a painting depicting Breton dance Touchscreens explain major artistic movements, while films tell the stories of artists such as Artemisia Gentileschi.
Games are present throughout the visit: memory games, Rapidomudia, and interactive experiences inspired by well-known artworks. The Pointillism application even allows visitors to create their own artwork in the style of Seurat. An interactive installation inspired by Jérôme Bosch comes alive at the touch, and a cinema room presents the history of art in a clear and playful way.
Mudia sparks curiosity, surprise and enjoyment. Families find an ideal cultural playground, children discover art without pressure, and adults rediscover the pleasure of learning in a different way. Many visitors leave pleasantly surprised by the quality and richness of this museum, nestled in a small village, and charmed by its warm and welcoming atmosphere.
