Museum of Walloon Life, a sensitive immersion into the soul of everyday life
At the Museum of Walloon Life, an entire society unfolds, from the 19th century to the present day, through objects, images, sounds and memories. Located in the historic heart of Liège, the museum offers a journey that is both intimate and abundant, where visitors often recognise gestures, habits and words sometimes those of their grandparents, sometimes their own.
From the moment you enter, the atmosphere surrounds you: wood, warm colours and soft lighting. Visitors step into a true time capsule, rich with a cultural heritage carefully and humanely preserved.
A rich journey that feels surprisingly familiar
The museum route unfolds over two floors and impresses with the quantity and diversity of objects on display. Each room reveals a facet of everyday life in Wallonia: work, leisure, beliefs, celebrations, traditions and lifestyles. Objects that are sometimes unusual, sometimes familiar, recount the past with touching sincerity.
The visit often evokes a feeling of nostalgia, but also curiosity. Visitors pause before an object, smile, remember and compare. The museum does more than display artefacts: it puts them into perspective, linking the past to the present and inviting reflection on what we will pass on to future generations.

In het Museum van het Waalse Leven in Luik ontdek je de achterkant van het decor van het carnaval van Rio de Janeiro aan de hand van de grootste collectie carioca-kostuums in Europa. Meer dan vijftig schitterende outfits dompelen je onder in een sprookjesachtige wereld, van naaiateliers en sambascholen tot de apotheose van de grote parade.
Het carnaval is meer dan ooit verankerd in de Braziliaanse cultuur en inspireert een echte levensstijl. Net als in Wallonië is carnaval meer dan alleen een spektakel: het is een collectieve en populaire taal, vrolijk en levendig, waarbij de hele gemeenschap op het toneel verschijnt.
Vergeet de grijze winterdagen en laat je meeslepen door het ritme, de materialen, de kleuren... van het carnaval van Rio!
