Museum of Walloon Life, a sensitive immersion into the soul of everyday life
At the Museum of Walloon Life, an entire society unfolds, from the 19th century to the present day, through objects, images, sounds and memories. Located in the historic heart of Liège, the museum offers a journey that is both intimate and abundant, where visitors often recognise gestures, habits and words sometimes those of their grandparents, sometimes their own.
From the moment you enter, the atmosphere surrounds you: wood, warm colours and soft lighting. Visitors step into a true time capsule, rich with a cultural heritage carefully and humanely preserved.
A rich journey that feels surprisingly familiar
The museum route unfolds over two floors and impresses with the quantity and diversity of objects on display. Each room reveals a facet of everyday life in Wallonia: work, leisure, beliefs, celebrations, traditions and lifestyles. Objects that are sometimes unusual, sometimes familiar, recount the past with touching sincerity.
The visit often evokes a feeling of nostalgia, but also curiosity. Visitors pause before an object, smile, remember and compare. The museum does more than display artefacts: it puts them into perspective, linking the past to the present and inviting reflection on what we will pass on to future generations.
Living traditions and puppet theatre

Entdecke vom 5. Juni 2026 bis zum 3. Januar 2027 "La Houillère", eine ikonische Serie, die zwischen 1904 und 1905 vom Piktorialisten Gustave Marissiaux (1872–1929) geschaffen wurde. Seine Bilder sind einzigartig und innovativ und offenbaren die ganze ästhetische Kraft einer Industriewelt im Umbruch. Dieses faszinierende Werk, das die Moderne feiern sollte, lässt auch ganz beiläufig den Alltag der Frauen, Kinder und Männer erahnen, die dort arbeiten.
Auf der Weltausstellung in Lüttich 1905 gefeiert und dann nach und nach in Vergessenheit geraten, gilt "La Houillère" heute als Meisterwerk der belgischen Fotografie. Die Ausstellung beleuchtet zudem die ganze Vieldeutigkeit des Werks – zwischen industriellem Auftrag und künstlerischem Blick – sowie sein Vermächtnis anhand der Arbeiten von Künstler*innen wie Désiré Deleuze, Yves Auquier oder Thierry Girard.
Anhand einer sorgfältig in seinen Sammlungen bewahrten Sammlung lädt dich das Musée de la Vie wallonne – Provinz Lüttich ein, ein industrielles und menschliches Kulturerbe von ungeahntem Reichtum zu entdecken, bereichert durch außergewöhnliche Leihgaben der Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, des Musée de la Photographie de Charleroi, von Blegny-Mine und der Musées de la Ville de Liège.
