Cable car closed for several months... The Citadel of Dinant continues to welcome you!
The Citadel of Dinant
Clinging to its rocky spur, overlooking the town of Dinant, the Citadel has been a museum of arms and history for over a century. Step back in time during a pleasant day out with family or friends in an exceptional setting. You'll be enchanted by the unique view, more than 100 meters above the town.
Equipped with an augmented reality tablet, explore the Citadel of Dinant through the centuries and relive the highlights of the history of the fortress and the town of Dinant. Thanks to 13 time gates scattered throughout the tour, you will discover the Citadel in its Dutch period, before it became a military prison, and then delve into the dramas that unfolded in Dinant during the battles of 1914. Younger visitors can search for hidden objects in an interactive treasure hunt, while adults can delve into the military, political and architectural issues of the periods covered.
The highlight of your visit is the collapsed dugout, where you can follow in the footsteps of a ‘poilu’ whose trench has been hit by a shell... an astonishing experience!
Children can then let off steam on the playground, while older visitors can relax on our terrace.
In addition to the tour, the site offers a number of dining options: a pleasant restaurant at attractive prices (special conditions for groups) in the Grand-Place, a cafeteria-friterie at the summit, not forgetting the beautiful terrace ‘between cannons and casemates’ for a break in the heart of the Citadel.
Would you like to continue exploring Dinant and the Meuse Valley? We suggest you continue your day from the water, with our 3-in-1 package that includes a visit to the Citadel, the augmented reality experience visit and a cruise on the Meuse to Anseremme.
Other options are possible, and we offer packages for groups of 20 or more.
