A perfect place if you enjoy art that questions, spaces open to dialogue and visits that leave a lasting mark, well beyond the museum walls.
Stepping through the doors of the BPS22 is never an ordinary visit. It means accepting not to know everything in advance, allowing yourself to be moved by works that question the world, power, society and our own perception. Housed in a spectacular industrial building in the heart of Hainaut, this art museum stands out for a strong ambition: to contribute to the development of critical thinking, while remaining deeply welcoming and accessible.
Nothing here is fixed. The BPS22 renews its programme every four months, with major temporary exhibitions exploring the relationships between art, power and society. Each visit therefore becomes a new discovery. You never know exactly what to expect and that is precisely part of the place’s charm.
The works fully occupy the Grande Halle, vast, luminous and almost monumental. The volumes, materials and natural light create an atmosphere that encourages curiosity and reflection. Visitors move freely, pause, sometimes question, often feel surprised. The museum becomes a space of questioning rather than certainty, a place where people feel free to think for themselves.
What many visitors remember about BPS22, beyond the exhibitions themselves, is the feeling of being welcomed, heard and legitimate. Here, there is no need to be an expert in contemporary art. The museum embraces a genuine cultural democracy, where everyone can enter with their own experiences, emotions and questions.
The many and varied mediation activities reinforce this inclusive approach. Sensory workshops for toddlers from 8 months, holiday camps during school breaks, discovery workshops for adults, lectures, philosophy cafés, meetings with artists Every audience finds an entry point suited to their pace and interests.
The atmosphere at BPS22 evolves with each exhibition, yet one constant remains: the feeling of well-being within the space. Sounds, colours and installations stimulate reflection without ever becoming oppressive. Curiosity is awakened, sometimes challenged, often rewarded.
The museum does not seek to impose a message. Instead, it invites visitors to take a position, to develop a nuanced opinion and to leave with questions in mind. A deliberate approach that aims to encourage the emergence of responsible, active, critical and supportive citizens, attentive to the challenges of the contemporary world.
BPS22 forms part of a dynamic cultural landscape while asserting a strong and distinctive identity. It is a place worth discovering, revisiting and rediscovering, as it evolves with the seasons and artistic proposals.
Visitors rarely leave indifferent—sometimes challenged, often stimulated, but always enriched by the experience.
