Logne Fortress, a life-sized medieval adventure in the heart of the Ourthe valley

The Logne Fortress is a place to be experienced as much as visited. Nestled within lush natural surroundings, this impressive medieval stronghold overlooks the Ourthe valley and offers a spectacular setting steeped in history and legend. Here, visitors follow in the footsteps of the formidable Boars of the Ardennes, the Lords of Logne whose reputation has endured through the centuries. From the moment you approach along the forest path, the immersion begins: the calm of the woodland, sometimes accompanied by the melodies of troubadours and minstrels, sets the scene for a true journey through time.

The site immediately captivates with its atmosphere that is both wild and majestic, where heritage and nature blend in perfect harmony.

A fortress shaped by a turbulent history

The Logne Fortress tells a rich and eventful story. A refuge for the monks of the Abbey of Stavelot in the 9th century, it was later sold to the de La Marck family, becoming a feared stronghold before being destroyed in 1521 by the armies of Charles V. These episodes give the site a particular intensity, which visitors feel while exploring the remains of its medieval military architecture.

Mysterious underground passages, powerful walls and dizzying viewpoints recall the strategic importance of the site. From the summit, the view opens onto the Ourthe valley in a breathtaking panorama, often considered one of the highlights of the visit.

Explore, understand and marvel as a family

The Logne Fortress is designed for an active and family-friendly discovery. Audio guides allow visitors to explore the site at their own pace, making the history both accessible and engaging. The direct link with the Logne Museums and their permanent exhibition Living in the Logne Fortress further deepens the understanding of medieval daily life.

The highlight of the visit is the famous Golden Goat treasure hunt. This mysterious goat, guardian of a legendary treasure since the Middle Ages, leads children and adults alike through an exploration game full of surprises. In summer and during the autumn holidays, the treasure hunt is enriched with additional games, adding even more energy to the experience. A truly shared moment, often described by visitors as unforgettable.

Places and details that leave a lasting impression

Some elements remain long in memory: the impressive bridge overlooking the moat, the walkway leading to the well tower, the archaeological remains uncovered during excavations, and the remarkable 56-metre-deep well, recently highlighted and fascinating for its depth and mystery. Not to mention the majestic tree partially covering the moat, creating an almost unreal atmosphere.

The site is carefully maintained to preserve its natural charm and sustain a rich biodiversity, where fauna and flora coexist discreetly. Rare plants and flowers find refuge here, strengthening the connection between heritage and environment.

A place where history, nature and adventure meet

The Logne Fortress offers a visit that is simple in form but intense in sensation. Visitors appreciate the calm, the freedom to explore the site, the richness of its history and the activities that make each discovery feel alive. Between medieval immersion, playful exploration and communion with nature, the experience is complete.
