Avouerie Stories, when beer, history and storytelling meet in a living castle

At the Avouerie d’Anthisnes, heritage is not only admired — it is shared, experienced and even tasted. With Avouerie Stories, this 17th-century castle becomes the setting for a convivial and playful experience where beer serves as the thread connecting a joyful and accessible story deeply rooted in local tradition. From the moment visitors arrive, the site impresses with its presence, yet the atmosphere remains warm and welcoming, almost family-like, encouraging everyone to take their time and let the stories unfold.

People come here not only to learn but also to enjoy a memorable moment with family or friends, in a heritage site that feels alive and engaging.

A castle with three historical eras to explore

The Avouerie is a listed castle composed of three distinct historical periods, all open to visitors. The 13th-century medieval keep reflects the defensive origins of the site, while the former 15th-century brewery naturally connects the castle to the region’s brewing heritage. The elegant and imposing 17th-century residential building completes this remarkable ensemble.

Throughout the visit, the stones themselves seem to tell stories — about the uses of the place, its transformations and the lives that once animated it. Many visitors leave impressed by the richness of the site and the feeling of having travelled through several centuries in just a few steps.

Beer Stories, a playful and surprising beer museum

At the heart of the experience, Beer Stories offers an original and entertaining discovery of beer from the past, the present and even the future. The beer museum combines digital displays, playful games and clean, colourful visuals. Visitors learn a great deal without ever feeling like they are attending a lesson.

Anecdotes, small stories, brewing secrets and traditions spark curiosity and invite deeper exploration. The content is rich yet accessible, designed for a wide audience — whether you are a craft-beer enthusiast or simply curious.

An outing designed for families and epicureans

Avouerie Stories also places great emphasis on family experiences. Activities for children centred on the castle’s history and its local legends transform the visit into a true adventure where discovery and play go hand in hand. While younger visitors enjoy the games and stories, adults can savour the atmosphere and heritage.

The visit can continue with light refreshments and a craft beer bar, where visitors appreciate the quality and variety of local brews. It is the perfect opportunity to explore new flavours, receive recommendations and relax in a setting steeped in history.

A starting point for exploring the surroundings

The Avouerie also serves as a starting point for educational walks, on foot or by bicycle, through the surrounding countryside and the nearby village. It offers a gentle way to extend the experience, combining heritage, landscapes and local traditions just steps from the castle.

Avouerie Stories achieves a subtle balance between heritage transmission, pleasure and conviviality, in a place where visitors naturally feel welcome and often wish to return.
