An ideal visit for those who love art gardens, sensitive walks and soothing places, to discover during a stay in Durbuy, to let yourself be carried by the patient beauty of living heritage.
The Topiary Park is a place where nature becomes a work of art. Across 10,000 m², this garden of sculpted plants displays more than 250 vegetal figures, some shaped for over 120 years. Set on a hillside, overlooking Durbuy and the Ourthe valley, the walk invites visitors to slow down, observe and be surprised by a patient craftsmanship that transforms plants into living poetry.
From the entrance, shades of green unfold in all their nuances. The quiet is punctuated by birdsong and delighted smiles: here, every turn reveals a new discovery, every silhouette tells a story.
The heart of the park beats to the rhythm of topiary sculptures: animals, characters and unexpected shapes emerge from hedges trimmed with remarkable precision. Visitors recognise a crocodile, smile at a Manneken Pis, and linger before monumental pieces. This diversity, rare in Europe, gives the garden a living and ever-changing dimension throughout the seasons.
The work of the gardener-artist is visible everywhere. Visitors often say: What an exceptional work of patience. Here, the human hand accompanies nature without forcing it, revealing its beauty rather than constraining it.
The setting is exceptional. The park overlooks the Old Town of Durbuy, offering a peaceful panorama across the valley. The walk becomes a dual experience: artistic through its shapes and contemplative through its landscapes. In spring, the greens are soft; in summer, deep; in autumn, they turn to golden and copper tones. Each season reinvents the experience.
Visitors stroll slowly, observe the curves and listen to the garden. Time seems to stretch, inviting a moment of calm away from the bustle.
The Topiary Park is also a place of stories. Its mascot, the yew elephant, standing 4 metres tall, was placed in its location by helicopter. An anecdote that always raises a smile and reflects the scale of the creations. In 2003, during an exceptionally hot summer, the park even closed for two days to allow the irrigation of 50,000 litres of water, a testament to the care devoted to this living heritage.
These stories highlight the daily commitment required to preserve such a demanding art.
Sculpted nature, craftsmanship and quiet wonder The Topiary Park is a green haven where visitors learn to see nature differently. Families enjoy an accessible and playful walk, couples share a suspended moment, and curious minds find a source of inspiration.
