An ideal experience for those who love wide open spaces, landscapes to feel rather than consume, and nature discoveries guided with intelligence, in the heart of the Hautes Fagnes, where Wallonia touches the sky.
At the Maison du Parc – Botrange, entering the High Fens feels like opening a book of nature and silence. In the heart of the High Fens plateau, in a warm and welcoming setting, this place invites visitors to understand, experience and explore one of the most unique landscapes in Wallonia. Here, nature reveals itself gently, between peat bogs, heathlands and shifting horizons, often wrapped in mist, rain or snow, depending on the season.
From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels calming. The wind, the light and the vast open space set the tone: the discovery will be immersive, respectful and deeply refreshing.
The visit ideally begins with the permanent exhibition FANIA , a true immersion into the world of the High Fens plateau. Visitors discover how the peat bogs were formed, the richness of the landscapes, the unique flora and fauna, and the human history of this territory shaped by natural forces.
The approach is accessible, clear and engaging. It provides essential insights that help visitors better appreciate the walks that follow in the natural environment. People often leave with the desire to observe more closely, listen differently and respect this fragile ecosystem.
The Maison du Parc offers several ways to explore the Fens, always with the intention of taking time. Guided walks, led by certified nature guides, allow visitors to set out for 3 or 6 hours to discover the landscapes, stories and mysteries of the plateau. Explanations blend naturally with sensations: the damp ground beneath your feet, the vast open spaces and the sky that sometimes seems to meet the earth.
Another iconic experience is the wagon ride, available from April to November. Inspired by the old carts once used to travel to church, this 22-seat vehicle, now pulled by a tractor, offers a peaceful and original way to discover the Fens. It is a gentle way to enter the landscape, ideal for observing, listening and simply letting yourself be carried along.
Around the Maison du Parc, discovery continues freely. The medicinal plant garden invites curiosity and reconnects visitors with traditional plant knowledge. The educational trail Colours of the Fens offers a sensitive reading of the landscape through its colours, seasons and atmospheres.
For families, an investigation game in the Fens and a playground allow nature to be approached in a playful way, without ever trivialising it. The nature shop extends the visit with a selection of items related to the environment and the region.
The High Fens never fully reveal themselves. They play with the elements, alternating clarity and mystery. The Maison du Parc – Botrange guides visitors through this discovery with balance and care, raising awareness of the fragility of the environment and the importance of exploring it respectfully.
Here, every outing is different. The same path never has the same colour, the same sound or the same scent. It is precisely this richness that the Maison du Parc helps visitors to perceive.
