Fort de Lantin, reliving the Battle of Liège at the heart of a fort filled with memory

The Fort de Lantin is not just a military relic: it is a place where history is lived, felt and shared. The only historic site in the municipality of Juprelle, it invites visitors to travel back in time to August 1914, when the Battle of Liège marked Belgium’s entry into the First World War. Here, discovery takes the form of an immersive and accessible show-style visit, bringing events and the people who experienced them vividly to life.

From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere is distinctive. Thick walls, corridors, and the silence occasionally interrupted by narratives everything contributes to creating an experience that is both educational and deeply human.

An immersive visit to understand August 1914

The tour of the fort is supported by an audioguide, which accompanies visitors along the route and allows them to follow events at their own pace. The highlight remains the unique panorama installed in the cupola, retracing the Battle of Liège. The images and explanations immerse visitors in the heart of the fighting, offering a clear and powerful understanding of this historical turning point.

Visitors do more than simply learn: they return to the very places, imagining the tension, the waiting and the daily life of the soldiers. This immersive approach makes history more tangible and leaves a lasting impression.

Three museums to broaden the perspective

The Fort de Lantin also offers the discovery of three museums, which complement and enrich the visit. The telephony museum highlights the evolution of communication methods, essential in wartime. The museum Beaurevoir – cooking through the ages provides a more unexpected yet equally insightful look at everyday life and food across different periods. The trench museum immerses visitors in the reality of the front line, recalling the harsh living conditions faced by soldiers.

These spaces offer a broader reading of history, combining technology, daily life and collective memory.

A living site open to new experiences

The Fort de Lantin is not limited to the classic visit. It also lends itself to a range of original experiences. Visitors can enjoy an unusual overnight stay in two dormitories arranged as they would have been in 1914, while still benefiting from modern comfort. The bugle wake-up call is often mentioned as a memorable moment, extending the immersion into everyday life.

The site also hosts room rentals, the organisation of meals and is perfectly suited to live-action games, reinforcing its lively and versatile character.

A welcome that makes the difference

Visitors regularly highlight the quality of the welcome, the availability and dedication of the volunteers, as well as the friendly atmosphere that prevails on site. Many say it simply: Anyone who comes to Lantin comes back. A phrase that perfectly reflects the attachment this human-scale place of memory inspires, rich in meaning.

The Fort de Lantin succeeds in conveying history without freezing it in time, making it accessible, respectful and vividly brought to life.
