BELvue Museum

The BELvue is the no. 1 museum for learning about Belgium and its history.

The museum sheds light on Belgium via seven contemporary themes and a gallery of 200 Belgian objects. Combining a strong exhibition design with artful displays and a gallery full of surprising objects, the BELvue showcases Belgium's history with a contemporary twist.

Located in a magnificent eighteenth-century building adjoining the Royal Palace, the museum immerses you in Belgium, with all the fascinating aspects it entails.
It's Belgian culture in the broadest sense of the term!

Play tours are available for children aged 3 years and over.

The BELvue Museum is also home to temporary exhibitions and organises numerous activities.

Democracity is a role-playing game: in groups the participants form a political party and draw up their programme. By discussing with other parties and putting forward arguments, the participants build a city. They have to defend their priorities and take into account the reality of the budget. While they all experience the limitations and challenges of representative democracy, they learn more about the functioning of our institutions. Youth organisations, senior citizens' groups, and associations can attend a Democracity workshop. This workshop takes half a day and costs 50€ for a group. The educational service also organises a training course for animators of organisations and associations. Afterwards, they can use a BELvue room free of charge to organise Democracity with their group. To obtain more information and make a reservation, please contact the educational service directly: Patrick Pockelé.

In small groups, the participants first discover a theme room in the museum and present the results of their visit to the rest of the group in the manner of a guide. Then the "BELvue Tour" begins! Divided into several teams, the participants play an original quiz and become real experts on Belgium and its history. The BELvue tour is a very interactive visit where everyone discovers the museum's contents in their own way. The dynamics of the game provoke exchange and fun within the group. TWO POSSIBILITIES FOR A VISIT: 1. Independently → The group leader must prepare the activity in advance and supervise it during the visit to the BELvue. An educational file is available on www.belvue.be - free of charge. 2. With an animator from the BELvue → dates on request - 50€. Several versions of the Tour of the BELvue have been developed, including a version for French language learners (FLE). Online reservation required via the following link: https://www.belvue.be/nl/reservation/activity.

Didier Comès is one of the major authors of the Belgian comic strip, a master of black and white and fantasy. He enjoyed dazzling success in the early 1980s with a graphic novel that left its mark on a whole generation of readers, Silence. The story of this simple-minded deaf-mute exploited by the landowners of Beausonge and whom a witch will awaken to consciousness, is intertwined with the character of Comès, marked by all forms of rejection, exclusion and violence, whether rural or urban. Master of silences, Comès passed away in 2013, without ever receiving the honours of a major exhibition in Brussels. Thanks to the Comès Fund of the King Baudouin Foundation, people will be able to discover or rediscover this work of art through exclusively silent boards and a staging designed in harmony with the venue. Originals of Corto Maltese, the most famous comic strip by Hugo Pratt - a great friend of Comès and a fervent defender of silent boxes - will also be presented, as will those of an author who has often been presented as the spiritual son of Didier Comès, Christophe Chabouté. The exhibition is an initiative of the King Baudouin Foundation to promote the artistic heritage of Dider Comès, as part of the donation of his work by his brothers and sisters, and is curated by Thierry Bellefroid and Eric Dubois. At breakfast or after lunch, at work or with family and friends: coffee is part of many people's lives. It connects people, literally and metaphorically, through the passion for a cup of black gold or just as a means to share experiences. Coffee Stories collects stories about coffee. From the plant to the cup, the exhibition offers insight into coffee's rich past. With a focus on heritage, craftsmanship and traditions, Coffee Stories shines a light on the world of coffee today. Where does the plant come from? How do the beans in the hands of the roaster reveal their secrets? And why can a steaming cup charm so many? Get carried away on a bean-to-bag journey. Can't come to the museum? Discover the online exhibition, only available in Dutch and French: www.koffiestories.be/expo/ Online reservation required via the following link: https://bit.ly/38q0lX7.
